Are you beginning to think about your retirement future? One option to consider is a life plan community.

To help educate consumers about their retirement options, Lunch and Lunch events are great introductions and at East Ridge at Cutler Bay, a complimentary event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1, entitled, “LifePlan Community 101”.

“We find that researching a senior living community is a process undertaken over a period of time,” said Hoppy Sell, director of sales and marketing for East Ridge. “Older adults often start by attending educational seminars and luncheons to get a feeling about a community. Our Lunch & Learns are comfortable settings where prospective residents can have their initial questions answered. It’s reinforcing attending these events with other people who are in a similar decision-making stage. Sampling the food is just as important as having questions answered and the East Ridge executive chef prepares a delicious lunch for these events.”

East Ridge is a life plan community. What this means is that the community is designed for those who live independently in their own residence while eliminating the many responsibilities associated with homeownership. Maintenance-free living found at East Ridge means not even worrying about changing a lightbulb.

East Ridge has a tiered approach to the aging process, accommodating residents’ changing needs. The community offers Three Palms Health Center with assisted living, memory care and a skilled nursing facility should someone need care later in their life.

“When someone moves to East Ridge, they can select from the variety of residences found within the community such as our patio homes, cottages and villas”, Sells explains. “When assistance with everyday activities becomes necessary, they can move to the Three Palms Health Center. Even if short-term rehabilitation is needed after surgery or illness, they can live within the community without having to move outside of East Ridge to recuperate.”

Many of the health services offered by East Ridge can be brought to a person’s residence such as home health and rehabilitation. Most significant is that these services are coordinated by East Ridge, relieving families of these burdens.

The lifestyle of life plan community is an integral part of the many benefits. Each day offers new opportunities and discoveries from volunteering and giving back to others to attending classes, social events and participating in fitness activities. There is the comfort knowing you are surrounded by people who share similar life experiences and you now have the time to enjoy all the things you may not have been previously able to do.

The East Ridge Lunch and Learn is followed by personal appointments for community tours and more in-depth, one-on-one meetings with sales counselors.

“It’s so valuable talking with our sales associates as they understand the retirement processes and what options are available,” he said. “They want to help people find the best fit and their skills incorporate patience and empathy. It’s not uncommon for us to visit people in their homes as well as we get to know someone better.”
