The topic of estate planning may at first seem a bit daunting, but on Oct. 25, at The Terraces at Bonita Springs, the subject matter became much clearer and a lot more interesting.
During an interactive, lively and informational discussion, Michael B. Hill, Florida Bar Board Certified Wills, Trusts & Estates attorney and partner at Sheppard, Brett, Stewart, Hersch, Kinsey & Hill, provided the audience with a presentation of the basics along with practical direction on how to take the next steps toward a secure future.
Posing a series of questions for the audience to ponder, Mr. Hill started the conversation by asking, “What do we want our estate plans to accomplish?”
He covered the finer points of Florida residency, the transfer tax landscape, the effects of income tax, and much more.
Mr. Hill also explained the intricacies and importance of estate planning documents, and strategies to ensure that one’s wishes are properly carried out.
Using stories and real life examples, Mr. Hill engaged the audience and inspired an interactive discussion. He stressed the importance of the client being the one in control of his or her own estate plan.
