A View of the World

During the past several months, residents of The Terraces at Bonita Springs Renaissance have “traveled” to a myriad of points around the globe…all from the comfort of home. Carefully and creatively planned and facilitated by staff members Meredith Cochran and Miranda DeVault, each destination has been selected based on resident interests, background, and heritage. From there, the duo research the history, culture, and cuisine of each location, decorate and even dress according to theme, and present weeklong interactive itineraries chock full of documentaries, culinary tastings, music, art, and so much more. The program has been received with overwhelming enthusiasm and participation. Their latest “visit” this month was to Scotland.

Loch Ness Monster in Terraces Travel Series

First stop…the multi-purpose room (MLT) which became clad in plaid, a tartan extravaganza featuring flags denoting various clans, replicas of the Loch Ness monster, castle stonework, and apparatus reflective of the Highland Games. The MLT became the center for the week-long program that encompassed educational videos, talks on historical significance, and snacking on Lorna Doone shortbread cookies. Residents of Scottish descent were thrilled when they recognized the colors of their clans, as they shared family stories and adventures of the homeland. No matter where they hailed from, everyone embraced the spirit of the Scots, and enjoyed every minute of their virtual vacation.
