There’s no place like home – that familiar, comforting place where you can relax and be yourself. But it’s also a good thing to get out once in a while, take in some fresh air and see what’s going on in the world around you.
An outing, no matter how simple, means a lot to residents and their families living in the assisted living at East Ridge at Cutler Bay, a life plan community. The community makes a point having residents explore South Florida locations.
“For our residents, outings are joyous experiences that sparks their interest, rejuvenates their outlook and refreshes their memories of the places they’ve known so well,” says Patricia Naraindutt, activity coordinator for assisted living. “These enjoyable outings encourage residents to share activities with their neighbors, fostering camaraderie, a sense of purpose, the building of one’s sense of purpose and of self. And let’s face it: it’s just fun to get out and about.”
Popular driving tours have included Key Biscayne, Homestead, Wynwood and downtown Miami. Residents love seeing what’s new in their beloved city, according to Naraindutt. These drives spark memories and there is great conversation about their personal histories as they recall living and working in these places.
Enjoying local restaurants is also quite popular and residents’ favorites are typically scheduled on the monthly activity calendar, such as Cracker Barrel and Olive Garden. An evening adventure planned for this month included dinner at Red Lobster plus a Christmas lights tour of homes and neighborhoods decked out with holiday spirit.
