Everyone likes to have options. Even if it’s just choosing between one ice cream flavor or another (although we believe “both” is always an acceptable answer). That’s why choice is part of the everyday culture at East Ridge at Cutler Bay. It’s in everything you experience, from the lifestyle to the meals to doing just what you want to do every day.

“Your retirement is your time to do the things you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t had time to experience yet,” says Mary Scott Russell, Director of Community Relations at East Ridge at Cutler Bay, Miami-Dade County’s only true Life Plan Community. “We know that not everyone has the same retirement goals and dreams, so we’ve designed a lifestyle for residents that is focused on just that … choice.”

It’s a little much to say that the choices are endless, but … the choices are practically endless, limited only by your imagination and desires. “There’s so much to do both on and off campus, and we’re here to help you make the most of both,” Mary says. “Our culture of choice is about providing the best of both worlds for our residents. It’s a place where you have the freedom and independence to do what you want, along with the peace of mind that you can age in place comfortably, knowing that your health needs will always be covered.”

Mary says that many of East Ridge’s residents say that they wish they’d moved to the community sooner. “So many people don’t realize the choices and benefits a Life Plan Community provides,” she says. For so long, moving to retirement living meant giving up independence or simply “giving up.” Today, many people are finding that it’s quite the opposite – in fact, moving to East Ridge means you have more choices and options than ever before.

Mary says that East Ridge’s culture of choice allows older adults to truly live their dream retirement. “Moving into our community while you’re active, independent and healthy means you really reap all the benefits and choices available,” she explains. “Then, as you get older and may need a little extra assistance, you’ll be in a place you know and love that’s also designed to meet your needs.”

But let’s put that to the side. What does a culture of choice really mean? What does it look, sound and feel like? For the residents at East Ridge, here’s what living here means in terms of choices:

The choice … to do whatever you like.

Living on your own is great. But it also comes with all the chores, tasks and other headaches that come with owning a home, like lawn maintenance, taxes, home repairs, insurance … all those things can add up to time and money that takes away your choices. And let’s not forget the tedious things that day-to-day life requires, like cleaning, going grocery shopping, laundry, doing the dishes and other countless little things. By the end of the day, you may look around your home and realize you haven’t done much of anything except take care of your house. And do you really want to spend your retirement that way?

Our culture of choice takes those tasks away and gives you back your time – allowing you to make choices about the lifestyle and goals you want to accomplish in your golden years. East Ridge is a maintenance-free community, thanks to your monthly fee, so you never have to lift a finger again if you don’t want to. In other words … you can choose to do what you want, when you want, how you want.

The choice … to spend your money the way you want.

At East Ridge, you pay one monthly fee that covers everything. That means you never have to worry about forgetting to pay the sewer bill or be shocked by rising property taxes or deal with insurance. You may find that living here is more affordable than living independently … even if it’s just the mental energy that you gain from not having to deal with bills and surprise expenses every month. Having just one monthly fee means you can plan accordingly, which allows you to choose how you spend your money.

The choice … to spend your days as you wish.

Since we handle all the chores and take away a lot of the mental gymnastics that come from living on your own, you have the time to do the things that you want … as well as the opportunity to make them happen. When it comes to choices for things to do, you can’t do much better than life at a retirement community. For example, our Life Plan Community has several dining venues, a fitness center, a community pool, so many activities and events and much more. You always have numerous opportunities to enjoy life, find fulfillment and learn new things that pique your interest.

The choice … to not worry about your safety.
Safety and security don’t seem like things that would belong in a culture of choice, but think about it. How many choices do you really have if you always have the underlying concern about your personal safety or overall security? You may not want to leave home as much, or you may not be able to live your life to the fullest. East Ridge, as a Life Plan Community, offers both care and security around the clock. There’s always someone available to assist in an emergency, and help is never far away. Knowing that you don’t have to worry about your safety means that you automatically end up having more choices. Not to mention peace of mind!

The choice … to make and keep new friends.

Loneliness is a real problem for older adults, and it can feel like you don’t have a lot of choice if you don’t have a lot of friends to do things with. Moving into a Life Plan Community like East Ridge gives you back that choice – the choice to do things with other people whom you enjoy. Retirement communities are filled with active, independent older adults who want to get out and enjoy the world, much like you. Everywhere you go, you have the opportunity to meet new friends, whether that’s through a pre-dinner cocktail, a yoga class or gathering in the dining room.

The choice to … make the most of your golden years.

Moving into a community with a culture of choice means you’re starting a new chapter of life – the beginning of the perfect retirement years. As a healthy, active older adult, you can take advantage of everything the community has to offer. You get the benefits of a worry-free lifestyle now and peace of mind for the future. What could be more wonderful – and full of choice – than that?
